Building Cultures of Innovation - What Lessons Can We Learn from Law Schools? | TranscriptCLE Resources

Moderator: Matthew D'Amore, Director, Law, Technology & Entrepreneurship Program, Cornell Tech & Cornell Law School

Panelists: Jonathan Askin, Professor of Clinical Law, Brooklyn Law Incubator & Policy Clinic; Ray Brescia, Hon. Harold R. Tyler Chair in Law & Technology, Albany Law School; Nicola Shaver, CEO LegalTech Hub

Description: In recent years, legal services organizations of all kinds have learned that legal technology can reach more people faster than ever before. Historically lawyers (and sometimes clients) have resisted new technologies, which can seem contrary to traditional legal service delivery. Law schools are seeking to build a culture of innovation by teaching new generations of lawyers how to identify problems that technology can address and helping them acquire the skills needed to adapt, adopt and even develop solutions to these problems. The panel will consider lessons legal services providers can learn from the law school's experiences in this area and build technology competence, how law schools can improve their teaching to better meet the needs of the providers, and how civil legal services providers and law schools can work together to develop scalable, sustainable solutions.
