Court Hours:
Court normally operates from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a lunch hour and breaks throughout the day.
Court Security:
Magnetometers are in place in the courthouse and jurors are not exempted from the screening process. Weapons or dangerous instruments of any kind are prohibited in court buildings. Your cooperation and patience is appreciated in this effort to keep our facilities safe.

Driving Directions:
From the East (Chemung, Lowman, Wellsburg):
- Route 17 West/I-86 West to Exit 56
- Follow Exit 56 to Church Street
- Take a left onto Church Street
- Follow Church Street through several lights to Lake Street
- Turn left onto Lake Street
From the West (Big Flats, Horseheads, Sullivanville):
- Route 17 East/I-86 East to Exit 56
- At the end of the exit ramp, take a right onto Church Street
- Follow Church Street through several lights to Lake Street
- Turn left onto Lake Street
From the North (Millport, portions of Horsheads):
- Take Route 14 South to downtown Elmira (on the Clemens Center Pkwy)
- Take a left onto Second Street at the traffic light
- Take a right onto Lake Street at the traffic light
- From the South (Ashland):
- Take Route 14 North into downtown Elmira (on the Clemens Center Pkwy)
- After the bridge, take a right onto Water Street
- Take a left onto Lake Street at the second traffic light
Exemptions:
New York State Law has abolished ALL exemptions and disqualifications from jury service effective January 1, 1996.
Parking:
Parking is available on the 3rd floor of the Eastowne Parking Garage located on Baldwin Street at the rate of $5.00 per day.
Meals:
There are restaurants and fast food establishments within a two or three block radius. You are free to bring your own lunch. A refrigerator and microwave are available in the jury deliberation room. No food or drink is allowed in the courtrooms.
Absence / Emergency:
If an illness or emergency prevents you from reporting, please call our office at 607-873-9449 at 9:00 a.m. on the day you are to report. For weather emergencies, listen to your local radio stations, WLEZ (92.7 FM), WLVY (94.7 FM), WINK (106.1 FM), and WPGI (100.9 FM).
Telephone Standby:
All trial jurors are on "standby" and report only when instructed to do so by means of a recorded message. Please report promptly at the time indicated in the message. The telephone call in number is: 607-873-9555. GRAND JURORS ARE NOT ON TELEPHONE STANDBY. THEY ARE TO REPORT AT THE DESIGNATED TIME.
Verification of Attendance:
An attendance verification form is available to all jurors and is required by most employers for payroll records. Please obtain the form from the Court Clerk or Commissioner of Jurors.
Postponements / Excuse Requests:
All applications for postponements MUST BE MADE ONE WEEK PRIOR TO YOUR DATE OF SERVICE. If the date you have been summoned for is inconvenient AND your jury service has not been previously postponed, state law allows one deferral to a term date of your choice within 6 months. Your request can be made by calling: 607-873-9449.
If you can not serve even if granted a postponement, you may request an excuse from service after supplying the required documentation to the Jury Office.
Disabled & Hearing Impaired Jurors:
Hearing Impaired Jurors - An American Sign Language Interpreter or an assistive listening device can be provided. Call the Jury Office upon receipt of this notice. Call 607-873-9449 or Relay calls at 1-800-662-1220.
