Mission Statement

The mission of the Elmira City Domestic Violence Court is to ensure fair and equitable treatment in the criminal justice system for persons affected by domestic violence through creating an environment of accountability that inspires change at the individual level, reduces recidivism and increases overall public safety.

 

Overview

The Elmira City DV Court handles cases involving intimate partners (past or present) and features a dedicated judge and court staff with specialized training on issues that uniquely impact domestic violence cases. The Elmira City DV Court provides consistent monitoring and judicial supervision to enhance offender accountability, while employing court efficiency, informed judicial decision-making, and a comprehensive approach to case resolution.

The Elmira City DV Court is dedicated to encouraging individuals to lead healthier lives through scheduled compliance appearances, referrals to domestic violence and anger management classes with attendance verification, issuance of orders of protection, and collaboration and coordination with probation and community-based services. Victim support and resources are also provided through on-site victim support services and advocates.
