Student Focused Programs

 

Court Career Day

Offered: Traditionally held in May

Applicant: Junior and Senior High School students and College level students

Conditions: Educational and fun-filled half-day program designed to introduce students to the careers in the New York State Unified Court System. Students rotate to activities which include: Visit Career Tables, Observe a real trial, Go on a mini court tour, including holding pens and a confiscated weapons display. Take part in a simulated crime scenario and jury voir dire.

Requisites: Send a letter, email or fax stating your interest to be invited to Court Career Day. Complete Online Pre-Registration Form and return to the court. All participants will be receive written confirmation of their attendance.

Training Opportunity Program

Offered: During school term

Applicant: High School and College level students

Conditions: Students must be referred by educational institution and commit to a minimum of 6-hours per week

Requisites: Complete Application Packet and submit with last semester grades

Offered: During school term

Applicant: College level students pursuing a career in Law

Conditions: Students must be referred by educational institution and commit to a minimum of 6-hours per week

S.Y.E.P - Summer Youth Employment

Offered: During summer months

Applicant: High School and College level students

Conditions: Students must meet the criteria set by the New York State Department of Labor. Students work Monday - Thursday for seven weeks.

Requisites: Complete Application Packet and submit to the appropriate agency. Applications are available at public libraries and youth-based community organizations. Once, approved by the S.Y.E.P. Program, contact us to set up an interview to work with the courts.
