Judge Garguilo has served as a Supreme Court Justice in Suffolk County since January 2009. He currently manages dockets designated Commercial, Asbestos, and the Coordinated Opioid Litigation. He is an Associate Justice of The Appellate Term of the Supreme Court, 9th and 10th Judicial Districts and member of Coordinating Panel being appointed in 2021.

Prior to taking the bench, Judge Garguilo served as a law clerk to the Hon. Louis Mandarino, Justice of Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Thereafter, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Suffolk County (1977-1979). From 1979 until he assumed duties on the Court, he practiced law privately. His practice concentrated on litigation. To that end, criminal, negligence (plaintiffs and defendants), commercial and administrative agency matters were litigated.

Judge Garguilo received his Juris Doctor Degree from Duquesne University School of Law in 1977. He was admitted to practice in both New York and Pennsylvania in 1977. He has served the Suffolk County Bar as Chairman of the Unlawful Practice Committee, member of the Judicial Screening Committee, District Court Committee and Supreme Court Committee.

He proudly was honored as the St. Francis University-Distinguished Alumni (2017) and Columbian Lawyer Man of The Year (2010). Judge Garguilo lectures extensively before the Bench, Bar, Law students, and 4thyear medical students (SUNY at Stony Brook) covering topics involving Commercial litigation, evidence, medical malpractice, motion practice and jury selection. He comments often how much he enjoys the give and take of lecturing.
