Upcoming CLE Program - Credibility & Court Interaction: Overcoming Bias Against Female Lawyers, Litigants, & Witnesses

March 28th, 2024, 1pm - 2:00 (Virtual)

In the 2020 NYS Judicial Committee's Women in the Courts Gender Survey, it was revealed that the credibility of women with both male and female judges is significantly low, a disparity that has adversely impacted women in various court interactions, particularly in sexual assault cases.

Join attorneys Patricia Fersch and Catherine Christian and expert witness Dr. Chitra Ragahvan as they share their experiences navigating bias against female lawyers, litigants, and witnesses throughout court proceedings. They will also discuss best practices for attorneys counseling clients unable to provide a clear, linear narrative and offer insights on how trauma impacts the victim’s testimony.

Faculty: Hon. Betty Weinberg Ellerin, Esq., Patricia Fersch, Esq., Catherine Christian, Esq., Chitra Ragahvan, PhD

This program offers 1 CLE credit in professional practice to New York State attorneys through the UCS Office of Justice Initiatives Division of Policy and Planning.
