Ellen Nachtigall Biben was appointed to the Court of Claims in 2015 and sits as a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court. In 2017, Judge Biben was appointed by New York State Chief Judge Janet Difiore as Administrative Judge of New York County Supreme Court, Criminal Term.
Prior to her judicial appointment, she served as the Executive Director of the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics and before that as New York State Inspector General. She held the position of Special Deputy Attorney General for Public Integrity from 2007 to 2010, and served for more than 10 years as an assistant district attorney in the New York County District Attorney’s Office under Robert Morgenthau, where she was Deputy Chief of the Rackets Bureau.
In addition to her judicial duties, Judge Biben teaches Government Ethics as an Adjunct Professor at New York University School of Law.
