
Mission
The Office of Guardianship Matters and Elder Justice (OGMEJ) seeks to strengthen the Mental Hygiene Law Article 81 guardianship system to ensure effective and equitable guardianships and to promote the well-being of older adults and vulnerable populations. OGMEJ is governed by a set of values which promote accountability, maintain a high level of responsiveness, secure the well-being of vulnerable populations, and build community.
Strategic Priorities
In order to accomplish its mission, OGMEJ has identified the following seven strategic priorities to guide its work.
- Assess the MHL Article 81 Guardianship and Elder Justice System in NYS
- Facilitate the Implementation of Policy, Operational, and Legislative Changes to the Guardianship and Elder Justice System
- Increase the Availability of Guardians, Court Evaluators, and Court Examiners
- Provide Lay Guardian Support via the Guardian Assistance Office
- Provide Programmatic Oversight of the UCS Grant Recipients for Non-profit Agency Guardian Services
- Collect and Report Data on Active Guardianship Cases
