Justice Nancy M. Bannon was elected to the New York State Supreme Court, New York County, in November 2017, and was assigned to the Commercial Division in March 2024. After being elected to the Civil Court of the City of New York in 2008, she served for two years in the New York City Family Court, in Richmond and Bronx Counties, followed by two years in the Civil Court, Kings and New York Counties. Justice Bannon was designated as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in January 2013 and presided over a General IAS Trial Part which consisted largely of commercial and real estate matters.

Prior to being elected to the bench, Justice Bannon was the Principal Court Attorney to the Hon. Deborah A. Kaplan, who is currently the Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for New York City Courts. From 1987 through 2001, Justice Bannon served as an Appellate Court Attorney to the Justices of the Appellate Division, Second Department. She began her legal career as a litigation associate at real estate law firm.

Justice Bannon is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association, where she currently serves on the ADR Committee. She is also of member as the New York County Supreme Court’s Gender Fairness Committee and Equal Justice Committee. Justice Bannon is a Past President of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association and currently serves as a chapter delegate to the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.

Justice Bannon received her B.A. degree from the University at Albany and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
