Justice Eileen A. Rakower is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton and received her law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1984. She was elected to the Civil Court in 1996 and re-elected in 2006 and 2016. She was made an Acting Supreme Court Justice in mid-2006. She has been assigned to the city part and to a general IAS part; she has presided over non division commercial cases. Currently, she sits in a medical malpractice part.
Prior to her election to the bench, Justice Rakower was Court Attorney to Acting Justice Herbert J. Adlerberg and a Staff Attorney in the Legal Aid Society Criminal Defense Division in Manhattan.
Justice Rakower formerly served as co-chair of the Women’s Rights Committee of the New York County Lawyers Association.
