About Litigants With Diverse Needs
An increasing number of litigants are unable to take advantage of helpful court-based programs due to age or mental health-related challenges. Some of these litigants are also facing the threat of eviction, making them especially vulnerable. The NYS Unified Court System Office for Justice Initiatives’ Division of Access to Justice oversees landlord-tenant-based programs in New York City, such as the Guardian Ad Litem Program, with the needs of these litigants in mind.
The Division of Access to Justice also conducts a Poverty Simulation training program to increase sensitivity and awareness of the estimated 2.5 million people living in poverty in New York State.
