In order to keep cases moving, eliminate multiple appearances without results and address requirements of the upcoming Criminal Justice Reform Legislation, we are modifying the Court's calendar.

Continuing with the process we established in 2018 to address Standards and Goals issues:

Once a defendant has been arraigned on a criminal matter, which will now occur with counsel during specified Arraignment Parts (1st and 3'd Friday of each month), if not immediately disposed, the matters will be adjourned directly to a Cal Call/Discovery Compliance Part at a specific time (15-minute time slots).

Once a notice of appearance is filed by the attorney representing the defendant on the case or an assignment of counsel is received, clerks will mail a packet outlining motion dates, motion response dates and any other necessary documentation directly to defense counsel. (lf pro se - directly to the defendant) and this will be copied to the District Attorney's Office.

We will be scheduling pretrial conferences on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the non-trial terms at specified time slots. It will be expected that attorneys will have met with their clients and the District Attorney's Office prior to this conference date to work toward any possible resolutions. This will ensure everyone will be aware of any concerns or issues that might impact the resolution and they can be addressed prior to the conference with the Court. It is expected that on the pretrial date matters will either be resolved by disposition (plea) or set for trial the next term. If a plea is entered sentencing will be adjourned to either a sentencing date or the DWI or DV Part as appropriate. We will be adding additional trial dates by not having Tuesday and Wednesday calendars during the trial terms.

Cases relating to DWI and DV matters will be scheduled for sentencing during their respective parts.

DV Part will be held on the 1st Friday of each month in the afternoon. We will also have Arraignment Part at the same time and will utilize both courtrooms.

DWI Part will be held on the 2nd Friday of each month in the afternoon. We will also have Arraignment Part at the same time and will utilize both courtrooms.

Drug Court will remain on Monday afternoons (see separate schedule).

By establishing this for only six months, we can evaluate the effectiveness of this new process before committing to the entire year.

We believe this will be the best way in which to accommodate the changes we all are facing.
