On Thursday, January 9, 2020, students from the State University at Albany (SUNY Albany) participated in a tour of the Court Officer Academy in Brooklyn. The students were welcomed by Joseph Baccellieri, Chief of Training; Nancy Barry, Esq, OCA Chief of Operations; Major Andrew Wender; and court security training officers Ariana Flores and Robert McGuiness.

Chief Baccellieri provided a brief history of the academy and Nancy Barry spoke about her role at OCA and the many career opportunities within the court system. Officers Flores and McGuiness shared the progression of their career paths and gave the students a tour of the academy.

The students also observed the current academy class of 220 cadets during a training session and experienced first-hand the academy’s Firearms Training Simulator (FATS), an interactive system that uses a computer program to simulate firearms use in a safe environment. This tour was coordinated by the Office of Workforce Diversity following a job fair event at the college last Fall, where students were encouraged to sign-up for the 2020 Court Officer Exam.
