The filing period began Wednesday, January  22, 2020 and ended Wednesday, February 26, 2020. No late applications can or will be accepted.

EXAMINATION POSTPONED ONE MONTH DUE TO COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) PRECAUTIONS: The health of applicants and their families is our first priority. We are working with the testing company, PSI, in expanding health and cleaning protocols at the test sites. With this in mind, the examination testing period has been postponed to May 13, 2020 through July 31, 2020.  Accordingly, examination self-scheduling links will be e-mailed to applicants between April 20, 2020 and May 1, 2020.  We will continue to monitor, assess and address the situation keeping applicant safety as our foremost concern.        

This computer-based, multiple choice examination will be administered statewide at PSI Test Centers from May 13, 2020 to July 31, 2020.  Applicants will be e-mailed an examination self-scheduling link between April 20, 2020 and May 1, 2020. Scheduling will be first come, first served; specific date, times and test centers will not be guaranteed*. Contact COEXAMS@nycourts.gov  if your self-scheduling link has not been received by May 4, 2020.  Please note that the exam time is three hours and 15 minutes which includes the memory portion of the exam.  

You must possess a valid (NON-EXPIRED) original U.S. or state government issued PHOTO ID to take the exam. Acceptable photo IDs include driver’s license, U.S. passport, U.S. Military ID Card, U.S. government issued visa, and current high school identification card. Electronic IDs are not acceptable. Applicants who fail to present an acceptable ID at the test site will not be admitted or rescheduled.

New York State Court Officer-Trainees, at time of appointment to the position**, must be:

• at least 20.5 years old 
• a high school graduate or equivalent
• A United States Citizen
• A resident of New York State
• Valid New York State Driver’s License  
• Legally eligible to purchase and carry firearms

All of the above minimum qualifications must be met by time of hiring, not by time of examination.  

New York State Court Officer-Trainees enter the academy at Judicial Grade 16**. Effective April 2020, starting salary will be $51,113.

• Location Pay is $4300 for New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, and Westchester    Counties. Location pay is $2150 for Orange, Dutchess and Putnam Counties.

*NY State Unified Court System employees will be required to select among the dates/times available on Saturdays and Sundays during the exam administration period.  Those employees that are regularly scheduled to work weekends shall be granted excused  leave to take the exam during work hours in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement or Rules of the Chief Judge.  

**NY State Court Officer-Trainees who fail to meet performance standards during Academy Basic Training may be terminated at any time as the minimum probationary period under Rules of the Chief Judge 25.22(b) does not apply to New York State Court Officer-Trainees.
